Cream Cheese Tortilla Bites

  • Author: Emily Rhodes
  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 24-30 bites (about 8-10 bites per tortilla, serves 6-8 as an appetizer) 1x

Description

Cream Cheese Tortilla Bites are a quick, customizable party appetizer made with soft tortillas, a creamy herb filling, and optional veggies or meats. Ready in just 5 minutes, these bite-sized snacks are perfect for gatherings, lunchboxes, or anytime you need a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 23 soft flour tortillas (8-inch or burrito size; whole wheat or gluten-free optional)
  • 8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened (full-fat or dairy-free)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh herbs (parsley, chives, or dill), finely chopped (or 2 teaspoons dried herbs)
  • 1/2 cup (50g) shredded cheese (cheddar, pepper jack, or mozzarella; optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (or onion powder for milder flavor)
  • Salt & black pepper, to taste
  • 1/3 cup (30g) chopped veggies (bell peppers, cucumbers, or carrots; optional)
  • 1/3 cup (30g) cooked bacon or ham, chopped (optional)
  • A few drops hot sauce or sriracha (optional)

Instructions

  1. Remove cream cheese from the fridge and let it soften at room temperature for 10-15 minutes, or microwave for 10 seconds until easily spreadable.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, chopped herbs, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Add shredded cheese if using. Stir until smooth and well-blended.
  3. Fold in chopped veggies or cooked bacon/ham if desired. Taste and adjust seasoning, adding more herbs or hot sauce as preferred.
  4. Lay out tortillas. Spread a thin, even layer of the cream cheese mixture over each tortilla, leaving a 1/2 inch border on all sides.
  5. Roll each tortilla tightly into a log. For neater slicing, wrap logs in plastic wrap and chill for 10-15 minutes.
  6. Using a sharp knife, cut each roll into 1-inch pieces, wiping the knife clean between cuts. Each tortilla yields about 8-10 bites.
  7. Arrange bites cut-side up on a serving platter. Garnish with extra herbs or paprika if desired. Serve immediately or chill until ready.

Notes

Chill rolled tortillas before slicing for neat bites. Use a thin layer of filling to prevent squishing. Warm tortillas briefly if they crack while rolling. Customize with different herbs, cheeses, veggies, or meats. For vegan or gluten-free, use plant-based cream cheese and GF tortillas. Store leftovers in an airtight container up to 3 days; freeze uncut rolls up to 1 month.
