Description

This Delicious French Onion Pasta combines the rich flavors of caramelized onions with perfectly cooked pasta, all in just one pan. It’s a cozy hug in a bowl, perfect for busy nights or when you need comfort food.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz (225 g) pasta of your choice
  • 2 medium onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and olive oil. Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook, stirring frequently, until the onions are golden brown and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
  3. Once the onions are caramelized, add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Carefully pour in the beef or vegetable broth, scraping up any bits stuck to the bottom of the pan. Stir in the thyme.
  5. Add the cooked pasta to the skillet, tossing to combine everything well. Let it simmer for about 3-5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  6. Sprinkle the shredded cheese over the pasta. Cover the skillet with a lid and let it sit for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
  8. Spoon the pasta into a bowl and enjoy your delicious creation!

Notes

For a lighter option, swap in whole wheat pasta or zoodles. For a dairy-free version, try a nut-based cheese.
