Ham and Cheese Hawaiian Roll Sliders

  • Author: Emily Rhodes
  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 12 sliders 1x

Description

These easy oven-baked sliders feature layers of salty ham and creamy cheese nestled between soft, sweet Hawaiian rolls, topped with a savory butter mixture. Perfect for parties, potlucks, or a quick family meal, they’re a crowd-pleasing favorite that comes together in about 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (12 rolls) Hawaiian sweet rolls
  • 3/4 lb deli ham, thinly sliced
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
  • 1 tablespoon dried minced onion (or finely chopped fresh onion)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Thinly sliced pickles (optional)
  • Thin tomato slices (optional)
  • Extra cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line with parchment paper.
  2. Slice the entire package of Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally using a serrated knife. Place the bottom half in the baking dish.
  3. Layer the ham evenly over the bottom half of the rolls.
  4. Lay the Swiss cheese slices on top of the ham. Add cheddar cheese slices if using.
  5. Replace the top half of the rolls and gently press down.
  6. In a small bowl, mix together melted butter, Dijon mustard, poppy seeds, minced onion, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and salt and pepper.
  7. Brush the butter mixture evenly over the tops of the rolls.
  8. Cover the baking dish loosely with aluminum foil. Bake for 15 minutes.
  9. Remove foil and bake another 10-12 minutes, until tops are golden brown and cheese is bubbling.
  10. Let cool for 5 minutes before slicing along the roll lines. Serve warm.

Notes

For best results, use soft Hawaiian rolls and thinly sliced ham. Swiss cheese melts beautifully, but mixing in cheddar adds flavor. You can assemble sliders ahead and refrigerate until ready to bake. For gluten-free, use gluten-free rolls. If adding pickles or tomatoes, layer them between ham and cheese. Let sliders cool for a few minutes before slicing to avoid burns and messy cheese.
